Informal probate can be an efficient route when the statutory requirements are met. Massachusetts requires a complete packet, and missing forms can delay processing.

Notice timing: Mass.gov states that people entitled to notice generally receive written notice at least seven days before an informal petition is filed.

When Worcester Formal Probate May Be Needed
Formal probate is usually a judge-involved proceeding and may be appropriate when the requested relief requires judicial findings, formal adjudication or resolution of issues not available through informal probate.

A voluntary personal representative is not appointed in the same way as a personal representative in formal or informal probate. The court issues an attested copy of the filed statement rather than ordinary Letters of Authority.
