Prepare strong identifying details

Use Records Division when a full document is needed
Estate searches can be handled downtown or by mail. If you do not know the number of pages, email the decedent’s name, year of death or estate number and requested documents to the Records Division first.
Order certified proof when necessary
Banks, title companies, agencies, insurers or another court may require a certified or exemplified document rather than a screen printout.
Guardianship records are different. Fulton says adult and minor guardianship record requests are confidential, cannot be handled online or through mail, and must be conducted in person at the downtown location.

Georgia probate has several distinct estate procedures. The correct petition depends on whether there is a will, whether immediate temporary authority is needed, whether full administration is necessary, and whether a surviving spouse or minor child seeks Year’s Support.

Original Will, Original Documents and Obituary Deadlines
Fulton County has important follow-up requirements even when an estate petition is started electronically.
Physical original within 10 days
The current Fulton eFile page says to physically submit the original Last Will and Testament to the court within 10 days of e-filing when applicable.
Check supporting originals
The Decedents’ Estates page instructs e-filers to submit required original petitions and supporting documents by mail or in person within 10 days.
Obituary due within 10 days
When filing a new petition to open an estate, Fulton requires a copy of the obituary and gives petitioners 10 days from the original filing date to submit it for further processing.
Do not assume e-filing completes every original-document requirement. Save tracking and delivery proof when mailing originals to the court.

Physical delivery
The original Last Will and Testament is not replaced by the uploaded image when Fulton requires the physical original.
No current eFile opening
Adult and minor guardianship filings use the court’s guardianship procedures rather than the estate eFile route.
Downtown in person
Adult and minor guardianship record requests cannot be completed online or by mail.
Estate Mail Filing and Fulton Bond Rules
Mail petitions with the fee
Fulton says mailed pleadings must be signed, verified and include the appropriate filing fees. Pleadings sent without the required fee are returned without filing.
For mailed estate petitions, the court currently states that attorney checks and money orders are accepted.
Administration bond minimum
Fulton currently states that Administrations and Temporary Administrations have a minimum $25,000 bond before Letters issue. If more than $25,000 in assets is shown, the bond may be higher.
The estate page notes that the stated way to avoid that minimum is through powers given by publication. Confirm the current requirement for your petition before filing.
Do not mail a filing without checking the current fee total. Publication, service, real-property and case-specific costs can change the amount due.

Common Fulton County Probate Court Filing Fees
Fulton states that Senate Bill 232 updated statutory fees effective January 1, 2026. The amounts below are common planning figures; publication, sheriff service, property and later filings can add to the total.
Publication fees are separate where required. Fulton currently explains publication as $15 per first 100 words multiplied by the required number of weeks.
Inventory, Returns, Claims and Estate Follow-Up
Inventory
Fulton lists a $40 inventory filing when property is reported and no charge for an inventory without property.
Annual Return
The current fee schedule lists $40 for an annual return with property and no charge when there is no property.
Creditor’s Claim
Fulton currently lists a $15 creditor’s claim. Mail instructions direct claims to the Records Division with the applicable payment and return envelope.
Estate status timing: Fulton asks filers to allow about 45 days after filing before contacting Probate Court for an estate update.
Adult and Minor Fulton County Guardianship Help
Adult and minor guardianship matters use separate Fulton Probate divisions. Guardianship cases are not currently open for eFile.
Adult guardianship / conservatorship
Appointments are generally required, but Fulton allows qualifying walk-in adult services on Wednesdays and emergency petitions without an appointment during the stated business window.
Minor guardianship
Downtown minor guardianship services generally use appointments, with walk-ins on Wednesdays. Bring the child, required identification and printed documents when the court instructs.
Conservatorship over $25,000
Fulton says a conservatorship petition is required when a minor receives more than $25,000 from an inheritance or settlement.
